Pastor's Message

Well, in just a few days all this brouhaha and divisive presidential campaign will be over.  When I was sick last month with giardia, I watched hour upon hour of pundits spinning to the left and spinning to the right (stand up, sit down, fight fight fight!).

Among my favorites are David Brooks and Paul Krugmann.  Congratulations to NJ's own (tho born on Long Island) Krugmann, on winning the Noble Prize!  I don't always agree with these guys, but they are a notch above the snake oil salespeople, just shilling for their candidate.

Whatever happens November 4th, we cannot count on the President-elect to move our great country in the right direction by himself (one day, that will say "herself").  In the same way that non-voters have no right to complain. non-volunteers should look in the mirror before judging any national leaders.  Like my mom always said, "Volunteering is the Rent We Pay for Community."  Home-bound?  You can make phone calls, or write letters. You can even be disciplined and systematic regarding frequent prayers for those in need  that counts too, maybe especially!  One of our most 'active' members, never leaves home. but prays for you and me daily!

Can you bake cookies?  Townley will make sure they get somewhere to be a blessing.  Can you knit a hat or a scarf?  Some school kid in a shelter is gonna go to school cold this winter.  Can you create a shoebox Christmas package for a child who's never received a holiday gift?  We'll get it to him or her.  Can you call a senior citizen to see how they are doing?  This, my fellow Americans, is paying rent for community.  This, is being patriotic, as much as voting.  This is being Christian as much as attending Sunday worship.  Blessings to women and men of good will, and on earth peace.
